Artist Statement

Drawing inspiration from the human face, Joycelyn creates portraits and figures in oils and acrylics. Her deep respect and admiration of Native American and Hispanic People and their culture has influenced much of her work. Joycelyn also works in watercolors; painting flowers, plants and landscapes. Mostly self taught, Joycelyn also studied for several years under a master artist. Joycelyn’s work has been featured at Mills Pond House Gallery in St. James, NY. Her painting, Espera Bailar, exhibited in STAC’s Arte Latino exhibition, was featured on the cover of The Smithtown News’ Dimensions of Living section. Her painting of "Our Lady of Guadalupe", was permanently installed in St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church in 2016. Joycelyn is former Long Island native whose roots go back to Sicily and Puerto Rico. She now lives in Buffalo with her husband, Nick. They have two grown daughters. Her family, heritage and the traditions they share, are a constant source of encouragement, strength and inspiration.
